I'm just tired of this 2 way system where the republicrats' political bureaucratic bullshit over runs common sense..
I decided to dedicate the next 5 years of my life towards my campaign, even though i know i probably don't have a snow ball's chance in hell, but if i can open up some people's eyes on some new ideas to make this country and the world a better place for everybody to live in,that would be a great feat.

First you need to meet the qualifications.
Be a natural born citizen and at least 35 yrs old when you are running, also you have to have actually lived in the country for the past 14 yrs preceding the election - if I understand the Constitution correctly.

Then you need to get known, and get experience.
This would mean becoming a governor, senator or representative in 2008 to have time to build up even a minimum of experience. You can also be a Judge, lawyer or actor. :)

Seriously, if you do this, I hope you keep great notes. That kind of dedication to a cause may just make a great book, and you'll need something to fall back on, because the major parties and the biggest spenders own the political process of this country, and not much short of Noah and his Ark are going to change that.

I do applaud your fire. Perhaps channel it into a blog ?

Well you have to start small. Doing local mayor, governor, city council, etc. From there you would need to move on the senate or congress. If you think it takes 5 years to become president then you really don't have a "snow balls chance in hell". It takes a lifetime dedication to be president, not 5 years.
You also have to be natural born to the US, be 35 years old, and been a resident for the last 14 years.

That is an admirable goal. But, in my honest opinion, if you don't know how to do it then you might not have a shot. The 2012 candidates are meeting and analyzing and planning as we sit here - it never stops. You have to get into it in a big way and - VERY IMPORTANT - you need some big money to do it. But, don't be discouraged - work at the business of government, its 'ins' and 'outs', and personality. Read, read, read. Pick up all that you can. Learn the players and their managers. The mechanics take a while, so get started. Good luck!

You should make proportional representation a huge part of your campaign then.

This is the only REALISTIC way to get rid of the two party system we have. (I know there can be third parties in our current system). People don't want to vote third party because people know they won't realistically win and their vote is wasted.

The USA is only one of three advanced Dem. Or Rep. countries that still have first past the post.

We could use preferential voting in which you list your preference for any number of candidates when you vote. Then it would be something like after the results the top four candidates remain and the person with your highest preference is who you vote four of them and then it would be top two and the person with your highest preference is who you would vote for. (Preference was indicated on ticket-don't have to vote again). I think this method is better for electing Presidents and Governors.

We could also use Cumulative Voting. In this method more than one candidate will be elected. This could be electing all congressmen in one state or the state could be divided into sections electing fractions of the congressmen. In this method you can vote for a certain number of candidates (maybe 3). Usually a more dominant party would nominate more candidates than a less dominant party so they get more people elected. The green party might only nominate a few candidates because they don’t have many supporters. This would ensure we have a congress that is more in proportion with what the people think. This could also be adjusted to a form of preferential voting so your vote is not wasted.

Under this two party system we currently have, the parties believe in basically opposite things and will criticize the other party for many things. If we get rid of first past the post voting and replace it with cumulative voting the minorities will also be represented creating greater possibilities for more than two parties that can realistically be elected and will make it so you can choose a party closer to your beliefs.

If you want to learn more about voting systems, you can read more here:

Also, maybe you should try to run for the House of Reps. or an other office first. You should also, put emphasis on common-sense on things like subsidies and taxes and be able to explain all your decisions.

The way things are going, I'd say you better start now.

They start campaigning 2 years ahead of time. We start advertising for x-mas in September, and Halloween in August.
By the time 2012 rolls around X-mas will be in June and elections will be held 5 years before hand. Primaries will start tomorrow.

i think actually you can do that. use the write in feature. i've gotten so disgusted at the crappy politicians in our area (they give wine to bums to get votes) one year i voted straight across the board for walt kelly's favorite candidate...."Pogo"...the corrupt bunch here is well entrenched. I almost died a few years back. out of icu after 30 days get to a care facility and a state flunky calls to tell me that the state does not care if i loose my house! nice huh? I should have let the soviets take out the state capitol. frankly i'll be glad when i kick off! if you win...clean up the country and stop giving our money to a bunch of ingrates/ start with france!

are you black? or gay? are you trying to start up the fire in someone's belly? put a gleam in some kid's eye? Let the real politician's do it, if you want to do that, then become a real politician. Start off at the local level, municipal, then work your way up, making contacts and shaking hands. Once you have some leverage, do something nice for the schools, let the kids there see you as a success who helps people, rather than some far away figure who does things they don't really understand.
