Oh, well that sucks. My dad died this May from lung cancer. Still trying to deal with that. That's one reason the show touched me so.

Jennifer. How did OLTL screw him over? Are you sure he wasn't ready to retire. He is 82 after all.

No the actor who played Asa (Phillip Carey) has some health issues and did not want to be put on recurring status. And Asa is a character who could not be recast - so he died, peacefully in his sleep.

Phil Carey who plays Asa is alive. He's 82 and chose to retire because he had been battling lung cancer but is doing very well.

Phil Carey (Asa) is still alive. OLTL wanted him to be a recurring character and he refused. He's a veteran, they needed to treat him with more respect.

no they would of told us at the end of the show ,..they would have said in remberance of him...but he is just sick with lung cancer you know that stubborn thang always smoked ;;Man I cried from beginning to end...they could have even of replaced him not that you could replace him but they replaced clint ...Asa was a good thing for that show I will miss his character

don't know if he is dead, but he has lung cancer real bad. Has for a while and he is not in any shape for work from what Ive heard.

No, he's not well, but is still alive, just retired.
