Either of 2 things, usually, will cause your b-o-n-s-a-i tree (or most other plants, bushes, etc.) to have brown tips: not enough water/incorrect watering technique, or an insect or disease. Bonsais are finicky little things; do you have a How Not To Kill A Bonsai book? All the pruning, micro-tools, etc...worth the final effect but a pain getting there.
