You can shoot anybody comming on to your property. Just as long as no one sees you plant the knife at their dead body.

You have to be able to prove that you had reasonable cause to believe that your life was in danger. Otherwise it is murder. If they were armed, and brandishing, they are toast, (or you are, depending on who is a better shot.) That said, the best firearm for defending you home is a shotgun. It is easier to hit your target at close range, and lethality drops off pretty quickly with distance, reducing the risk that a stray shot will kill an inocent neigbor, or family member. Do not assume that you will be a perfect shot under combat conditions.

Only in deadly fear of your life, or words to that effect.
The rules vary state to state, but in states without castle doctrine in place te cops will grab you if you don't run away.
Do not shoot someone and move the body- forensics will get you.

You cannot use deadly force to protect your property. Period.

The only way you can use deadly force is if you have a reasonable belief of IMMINENT serious bodily harm.

That, however, is an exception to the general rule, that you do not have authority to inflict private punishment on criminals.

Depends on the state. In some states, you have a "duty to retreat" -- ie, back off and let them take what they want.

In other states, there's no "duty to retreat", so blast away.

Some states have self defense laws so you can protect yourself, your family, and your belongings. A few do not. Check your local laws.
