Michael Jordan is the BEST!

Anyways, you can't just use the example of 100 points in a single game to make Wilt better then Jordan. Why? Because it's just ONE game! One game doesn't define the player! It's a CAREER that defines a player! Check thise out:

6 NBA Titles
6 NBA Finals MVPs
5 Season MVPs
10 Scoring Titles
3 Steal Titles
1 NCAA Championship
2 Olympic Gold Medals
and etc. I could go one forever!

BTW, Wilt never scored 63 points in the PLAY-OFFS either! The post season is where it counts the MOST!

Michael Jordan's Scoring Records That Wilt Can't TOUCH!

10 Scoring Titles
7 of them Scoring Titles was in a row
8 seasons averaging 30 points or more
12 PLAY-OFF seasons averaging 30 points or more
33.4 ppg career PLAY-OFF point average
30.1 ppg career point average
5,987 Total play-off points
41.0 ppg in a NBA Finals series
262 Total ALL-STAR points
32,292 career points
866 consecutive games scoring in double figures
Has the highest scoring play-off game, 63 points
Has scored the most points in 1 half of a NBA Finals game, 35 points
Has the most 3 pointers made in 1 half of a NBA Finals game, 6 three pointers
He's only 40 year old player to score 40 or over points
He's never averaged under 20 ppg in a season

Anyways, I could go on and on! The fact is that they both have done things that the other hasn't done! But MJ done MOST of his thing in the PLAY-OFFS (Wilt came small in the play-offs!

THE POST SEASON (PLAY-OFFS) IS WHAT DEFINES A PLAYER!

MICHAEL JORDAN IS THE GREATEST!

Anyone claiming to have the definitive answer to this question based on stats is kidding themselves.

It has long been recognised that during Wilt's time in the League he was almost without peer, in that no-one could match him at the offensive end and only one man ever had his measure defensively, of course being Bill Russell from the Celtics.

As for Wilt having no rings, put that down to two names; Russell and the Celtics coach (and later GM) Red Auerbach. Red was a managerial genius when it came to building league-dominating teams.

As others have said, Wilt's game was very one dimensional and played mostly within 3 feet of the basket.

For those stats junkies out there however, go and check out the League records for highest season ppg and best field goal percentage for individual games. Then remember how many shots MJ had to take to make not quite as many points.

Then aagain, it must be said that how many points a player can score in an individual game can be manipulated by the style of play the team adopts on any given day. I've never seen footage of any of Wilt's games, but I imagine that he would've demanded the ball as first option every time they were in offence.

If anyone thinks that statement sounds ridiculous... look back in time to a certain season where 'The Admiral' David Robinson scored some 70 points in the final regular season game to boost his chances in the MVP race... it can be done!!

These are just SOME of the records Wilt Chamberlain holds:

Highest point total in one game: 100
Highest career ppg : 30.1 (tied w/Jordan)
Most 70+ point games: 6 (Jordan never scored 70 pts)
Most 60+ point games: 32 (Jordan has 5)
Most 50+ point games: 118 (Jordan has only 30)
Most 40+ point games: 271
Most consecutive 50+ point games: 7
Most consecutive 40+ point games: 14
Most consecutive 30+ point games: 65
Most consecutive 20+ point games: 126
Most consecutive field goals made: 35
Highest FG% in one season: .727%
Highest ppg in one season: 50.4 ppg

Wilt has 15 of the top 25 highest scoring games in history. Jordan has 2.

Again, these are just some of Wilt's SCORING records, the category that Jordan is supposed to dominate. He was also the greatest rebounder ever, played the most minutes ever, LEAD THE LEAGUE in assists one season ( Jordan made the top ten in assists ONCE, as a GUARD!!), and is probably #1 or 2 in blocks, had that been an official stat.

So how can anyone say that Jordan was better than Wilt?!?

Wilt was a great inside, back to the basket, player and a very good rebounder. Somewhere around 99.9% of all his shots were from within three feet of the basket. When Wilt was playing there were only a few other seven footers and none of them had the agility of Chamberlain. He was a great one dimensional player while Jordan was the consummate player that was better than everyone in every facet of the game.

To Miteshdasa1: I am not trying to say that Jordan was the best when looking at each facet individually and than comparing him to others in that one area of play. What I am saying is that if you look at every facet of the game and compare Jordan's complete game against any other player's complete game, including Chamberlain, Jordan was better. By the way, I also grew up in LA and had season tickets throughout the 1960's and 70's.

Because Michael Jordan Has 6 Championship Rings

King may be right, but another reason is that as time passes there are fewer and fewer people who saw Wilt play and more young fans who have seen MJ, but not Wilt. You can also see this effect in that so many now say that Kobe is better than MJ, most people who say this are very young fans who did not get to see MJ regularly and watching a few highlight reels will not do. I think it is safe to say that most who saw MJ and are watching Kobe now say that MJ is better, but not all. The slow martch of time tends to favor the newer players. When all you have to go by are stats and a few highlight reals you miss a large portion of what really defines a player.

To netsf32, you do MJ a diservice by just focusing on his 6 rings. By your criteria Russel (I can understand that) is better than MJ, but so is Rober Horry, # of championships is a lazy argument.

To Frizzer, every facet of the game? that is simply no where near the truth you are being lazy, MJ was to short to consistently post up, centers and forwards he was a good rebounder in the clutch but could never be counted on for say 10-12 per game when during his time there were always at least 10 players per season who could, he was a good shot blocker for his size, but the best just no way. Tell me he was quicker, could jump higher had a better first step than anyone else, won 6 finals MVPs, but do not try to tell us he was a better 3pt shooter than anyone else, tell us he made his team-mates better but do not tell us he was the best playmaker. All facets of the game, if you want to defend MJ you can do better than that.

Well, one game does not make one the best, for one thing. In any case, this is actually a hotly contested subject. A LOT of people think that Chamberlain is the best, and some people even argue in favor of Bill Russell or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. So there is no clean consensus that Jordan was the best, although many do think so.

1 He won more championships AND MJ had a more "flashy" game than Wilt. PLUS IF your facing Kareem, Bill Russell, and all the other greats of that time it is hard to win rings. MJ had a much better COACH and teammates. I will remind you that w/out Phil MJ never won a single ring 1st year PHIL is there wala gives him a ring. The same goes to SHAQ AND KOBE!!!
