I have recently moved to a new house and the heating gadget on the wall is the above make. We have a gas boiler (Ideal Turbo 2) how can i just have hot water without have the radiators on all day, albeit turned down. I have an instruction manual but only talks about the heating and not the hot water independantly. The plumber and heating engineer have'nt a clue, it is a German make that's all we know. Please help before our heating bill goes through the roof.

The thermostat on the wall controls your comfort heat. The water temperature of the domestic hot water should be controlled at the water heater. The domestic water temp should be around 120 degrees, lower if you have small children. If you have a small tank and like to take long, hot showers, push the temp up to 140, but make sure a scald-guard is installed on the outlet of the tank, ESPECIALLY if you have young children, or expect visits from grandkids.

If you cannot figure out the thermostat, have one installed that you can understand. They take a little while to figure out, but many programmable thermostats have the following features:

Wake - temperature you want to reach when you wake up and prepare for the day. Your body/mind works better when it is warmed up. Set this temperature where it is best for you between 68 and 74 about 1/2 to 1 hour before you wake up.

Day or Leave - temp. you want when you are away from the home. The system rests, set this around 62 to 66, starting the time you leave the house.

Return - temp you want while you prepare your evening meal and do activities around the house. Comfort zone between 68 and 74; 1/2 to 1 hour prior to returning home.

Sleep - lowering the temperature 1/2 hour prior to bedtime will help your mind/body prepare for the evening rest. This will also reduce expense of heating during the time when the machine will work the most. Set the temperature 62 to 66.
