it can be simplified into 2 aspects of american life- social and economic.

socially speaking, democrats work to increase personal freedom such as a woman's right to choose, the right to marry the person you love regardless of gender, etc.

republicans are strongly tied to the catholic church since reagan's presidency and they tend to support more traditional ideas (ie an unborn fetus' right to life, heterosexual marriage ONLY etc).

economically speaking democrats support policies that directly aid the needy and the average americans. they tax big business heavily in order to alleviate the monetary burden of the average american. because of this, there are more democrats in urban areas and poor areas of the country.

republicans are favored by big business because they practice trickle down economics which gives cut backs to business so that business can grow and then more people will be hired and the wealth will 'trickle down' to the needy.

educated people tend to be more liberal. middle america tends to be more conservative. http://chrisevans3d.com/files/iq.htm

Republicans:

Low taxes - low taxes allow for growth of businesses and businesses create jobe.
Keep Federal government small
Right to life - against abortion
Military is a resort that can be used to solve conflicts
The States are responsible for the people, NOT the Federal government.
Strict Constitution interpretation

Democrats:

High taxes - the rich must pay more to take care of the people
The Federal government has to take care of the people NOT the states
Hates the use of the military
Believes diplomacy is the only way to solve problems
Social engineering - we must understand each other, and accept other lifestyles as ok.
The Constitution has to ebb and flow (change with the times)

There are more differences, but this should give you an idea of some of them.

In general, a democrat is the one that looks for "Miss Right", while a republican is the one that looks for "Miss Right Now".

A crude analogy, but I think quite effective. This is not true for most mature voters though. A thinking adult will vote for people from either party, or 3rd parties, if the platform fits what they believe in.

Only a fool votes a straight column ticket...unless all opponents have been thoroughly researched, and discarded for reasons other than their party affiliation.

There is not much difference at all these days. Libs hate George Bush with a passion, but he is not much different than they are. Democrats support large Government and Republicans want less, GW has grown the Government so large that all Libs should be having a giant love in right about now

Democrats care about the truth and want to help the people.

Republicans only about money and themselves. "ME ME ME"(that's not an exaggeration. Most Republicans will agree to that statement).......yet use the bible to gain credibility for their flaws and hypocrisy(many Republicans are so sheltered and ignorant that they actually believe by going to church they're some how making up for all of the lying and cheating that occurs). FYI, IT'S NOT WORKING!

Get rich quick schemes in the capitalist business world, such as buyouts, IPOs, conglomerates, acquisitions, mergers, and the stock market do not actually work.

Remaining solvent does not actually exist within false economics capitalism.

Pathological lying about profit existing in the capitalist business world, or millionaires existing within capitalism, is deception committed by the 21 organizations spying on the public with plain clothes agents, (with covert fake names, fake backgrounds, and fake property).

Actual economics involves the persons paying the monthly business loan payments of companies owning the companies, and voting at work in order to operate the companies they are paying for.

Capitalism is the psychology of imaginary parents, false economics, and criminal deception of employees that are paying the bills (including the stocks and bonds, or shares) of companies.

Anti-democracy republicanism is the psychology of imaginary parents, and false government.
