That's exactly it! ( no pun intended). It can mean anything. It could be yourself, your life, your friends. It in that quote can be defined in one little answer. That's a genius quote, whoever said that.

The ancient Greeks and Romans would have called it Fate. They would have seen it as the will of the gods. "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles is a perfect example of their view of the consequences of fighting one's fate.
On the other hand, the Asian traditions of Taoism and Zen would consider "it" to be the energy and flow of the world around us. George Lucas borrowed the idea when he created Star Wars. The "Force," anyone?
Your quote could be taken as good advice, as long as it isn't used as an excuse for apathy and avoiding responsibility.

To ponder here what has been asked,
Will doubtless take a bit.
But what I see is simply put,
The meaning now of "IT".
To not control but harmonize,
Could be a problem, pure.
The only thing comes to my mind.
Is that it's called nature.

Life is not an it - people and animals are not its. Which leaves it to describe inanimate objects.
There is really no reason to fight with or control an inanimate object, because there is no power or purpose to that.
Perhaps it sugests you not bother with trying to control something or fight something that cannot fight back.
