Here's the scoop... next week I am flying to Boston for a conference. This will be my first visit. Because my employer is paying for me I feel kind of obligated to work most of the time, but I think I can play hooky for a day or a day and a half. I figure in that time, I can probably see three attractions.

So tell me... what are the three best things to do in Boston?

1. Fanuiel Hall- shopping. Lots of tourists and Bostonians go there! they have tons of shops and a huge food court with everything! including Boston's Clam Chowder and everything you will find in any mall food court.

2. Site seeing- so much to do! if you want to do history sight seeing, check out the Freedom Trail- you will see the North Church, the site of the Boston Massacre and tons more. also check out Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution which are both in Charlestown. Bunker Hill is actually the end of the Freedom Trial. http://www.theinsider.com/boston/attract...

3. Duck Tours- It is a tour bus and boat. It's really interesting and fun. The boat actually goes into the Harbor and tourists ride around the streets quacking. haha. It's so cute!

Honorable Mention:

-Red Sox! You can see a game, or take a tour. Fenway Park is amazing, and die hard fans live and breath there!

-New England Aquarium- (it's in Boston) I've actually never been, but i heard it's HUGE and fantastic! check it out. http://www.neaq.org/index.flash4.html......

-Harvard Square- it's filled with street performers, shopping and of course Harvard. there's always something going on there! http://www.harvardsquare.com/

-Food: lots of places i listed have restaurants (Harvard square, fanuiel hall, etc). But def. go to the North End; it's known for it's great Italian food. Boylston or Newbury St. also have cute cafes and great restaurants.

anything else? check it out here: http://www.bostonusa.com/

sorry that the list was so long! I know you don't have that long to do everything.... but you can def. fit it what women do best: shopping!

Actually Boston (it really should be considered Boston/Cambridge) is the most walkable, European-style city in the USA Do extensive promenading. In Boston the famous old neighborhoods and architecture surround the skyscraper district, which is roughly a 2 mile long curving line. Other than that it depends what your loves and interest are. History? Then (other than historic sites you will hit in the recommended promenading) The Freedom Trail, The Black Freedom Trail, the revolution battle sites in Charlestown and Washington's fortifications on Dorchester Heights and maybe a visit to the Longfellow House will certainly fill a day. Sports lover? The guided tour of Fenway Park is a must. Enjoy eating and drinking?? Some of Boston's best but unique restaurants would include Locke-Ober, Durgin-Park, Union Oyster House, the No Name on the Fish Pier and others, and the brew pub across from Fenway park is one of the best to be found anywhere.

Just my opinion

Hanover Street in the North End, which is is the Italian section. If practical you could do this in the evening. Have dinner at one of the many fine Italian restaurants - suggestion - find the one with the longest line. Have dessert (take it back to your hotel) at Modern Pastry - not Mikes. Mike's is an over rated tourist trap. Also in the North End is the Old North Church (one if by land, two if by sea fame) and Paul Revere's house. I could hang out in the North End all summer long, I love the ambiance, smells, people etc... It's just a special place.

Take a Duck Tour

For a woman - go to Newbury Street and go shopping.
For a guy - go to Fenway Park, take the tour if nothing else. Tours start at the Souvenir Shop on Yawkey Way.

Honorable mention -

Bull and Finch pub - a.k.a. Cheers bar on Beacon Street
Boston Common, ride the swan boats (on one end of Newbury Street)
Christian Scientist Monitor facility tour (quite interesting)
Walk the Freedom Trail
Faneuil Hall (near the North End)

PS - at Modern Pastry, the cannolies are made to order and fantastic! Also, the almond biscotti - get some to take home and have with coffee in the AM. There are many many other wonderful things there - those are just my top two.

Well in my opinion, you could do one stop around Fanueil Hall, and walk around there including the waterfront, and North End. Great sites, bars and restaurants. If you enjoy sports, head over to Fenway. It's history, that's for sure. The Freedom Trail is a nice walk, and it's interesting to learn about when our country first started. Those would be my three favorite parts of Boston. You might want to take a Duck Tour, or a Trolley Tour and see a lot in a shorter period of time if you are in a crunch.

I think number one would be try to see a Red Sox game, they'll be in town this weekend, and you'll be able to see Fenway Park which is awesome! Number two, try to some the Freedom Trail and some of the sites along it. There are so many historical sites in Boston, and you don't have to see them all, but maybe like Paul Revere's house, the Old Granary, the Old Meeting House....it might be easier to see them if you get a duck tour because it's a quick overview, and you get to go into the Charles River...Number three....maybe try to see the Museum of Fine Arts which is off the Green line on Huntington Avenue...this is absolutely amazing and there are so many different things to see including mummies and also some of Paul Revere's silver pieces he made. Have fun!!
