Read Dean Koontz. I've just started reading him and I can't believe I haven't before. Start with "Odd Thomas," it's great and right now I'm reading "The Husband," and I can't put it down.

Enjoy!

I read 2 books per week, i love crime/thriler novels -

James Ellroy is the best crime writer! He wrote The Black Dahlia and LA Confidential, the books are way better than the Films. Try Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential and White Jazz. Don Winslow is also brilliant.

If you like slightly odd stuff try Christopher Fowler's books featuring the eccentric detectives, Bryant and May, or maybe the Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child books.

Peter Straub is good, KOKO is one of the best crime novels ever, his stuff has a slight supernatural edge too.authors id very strongly recommend are:

Dennis Lehane- Darkness, Take My Hand is his best.

Harlan Coben - Gone For Good, Tell No One etc

Val McDairmid - A Place Of Execution

Other good authors are James Lee Burke and Michael Marshall.

Stephen King is more horror, his best books are Salems Lot and IT. If you like traditional horror try Tom Holland and James Herbert as well.

Read Patricia Cornwell- she has written a load of books revolving around Kay Scarpetta who is a forensics person which are fantastic. Jeffery Deaver, Andrew Gross, James Patterson, Harlen Coben (more private detectivey but still good) Mo Hayders Pig Island was just wrong in so many ways!! Forced myself to read it, but seriously- what the hell? If you go to Waterstones or any big book store they have a dedicated crime/thriller section in which they will group similar authors together and recommend stuff they think you'll like.

Any books by Martina Cole, Nicci French and Mandasue Heller are good. Mark Billingham's books are also good.

I've just started reading Relentless by Simon Kernick which is good so far!

Cell by Stephen King is also very good!

There are a couple of authors I really like, firstly Patricia Cornwell, I can never put her books down when I get them. Sue Grafton, writes really good private detective stories. There is also Kathy Reichs, but I find that sometimes her books take a little while to get into, and can get very heavy on the technobabble with no interpretation for the uninitiated. However in saying that, once you get into her novels they are quite good.

Michael Conelly's Harry Bosch stories - Awesome.
Val McDermid - She wrote the "Wire in the blood" series which has just been on TV. Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne series are good. Adam Barron's Billy Rucker books are great too.
I almost forgot Harlan Coben he's a genius.
