It's a cultural bias, similar to a teenager thinking that only the music of the last 10 years is worth listening to.
Before WWII, I bet everyone thought that WWI was the most monumental event in human history. In 50 years, we'll think of something else as worth paying attention to. And so it goes...

Absolutely. It's literally the largest single event-cluster in human history. The scale is almost unimaginable.
