1. Stop and smell the roses.
2. Free, Enthralled, Amazed.
3. When the eagles arrive at battle - because they bring hope.

This is one of the greatest books ever written for the young adult audience. Tolkien was a pure genius. I hope you enjoy the book.

Here is a good but far from complete or fulfilling summary:

1. Some of the basic themes of the book are courage, the folly of greed, and the basic unity of good people fighting against evil.

2. I felt a sense of wonder, and a desire to actually travel to Middle Earth. Much like Dwight Schrute expressed his desire to travel to New Zealand and see Mount Doom.

3. The climax had to be the scene where Zarquon the Magnificent arrived on his magical Hydra and rescued Bilbo from the Elf Queen.

I hope you get a great score on the essay you're working on.

These are kinda opinionated questions that you should be able to answer on your own if you had read the book (and I'm going to believe you did read it). Granted, it is possible to set the first and last as not being opinions, but the second most certainly is an opinion and is impossible to properly grade as folks should not all feel the same way about the book while reading it.

Sure, I can tell you how I felt, but I think it is neither interesting nor helpful in doing your homework.
I mean, you are lucky enough that you don't have to read over-sad and over-boring stuff, so why don't you just read it??
