What's your opinion on dressing up your dogs or cats or any other animal in clothing made for pets?

Personally unless the dog is one of those hairless dogs I think it's stupid. My dog is a short hair so when it gets REALLY cold out and we take him out I'll put a dog-coat on him or if it's raining really heavily I'll put a doggie rain coat on him but other then that I don't.

plcdls or evs your SN is, my dog is a short haired breed so if we take him out and it's cold we'll put a coat on him, it's not like the ones you normal see, it has two places that you put together on velcro(sp?) one around his neck and one around his belly. He seems to be ok with it, the rain coat he's a little iffy but I only put on if it's really bad outside. I am an Animal Lover and don't tell me different.

I can understand that a dog might need a coat if it's REALLY cold out but most doggy clothes are like dressing up a rat to look cutsie.

My short haired chihuahua wears "clothes" about 8 months out of the year. Poor little guy freezes and hides under the covers all the time if he isn't "dressed". He will actually bring me a sweater to put on him when he's cold :-) As far as dressing them up like toys I'm not into that at all.

I do put a sweater on when is cold and rain gear if raining but other than that is really not necessary and the dog will let you know believe me.

It's rather silly but people treat their animals like babies sometimes or dolls, but I feel that some short hair dogs need protection in the colder temps....I put a sweater on my pitbull when it got really cold since he slept outside in his house, and it never failed, he somehow got out of that sweater every time, he didnt like it, so I quit putting it on him, I felt he must feel better without it.

they already have fur and stuff, but then if they as doggy clothes, it would probably be uncomfortable an its not needed. Yearss ago my and my sis bought a hat for our dog and she HATED it. She would go crazy and tried to rip up the hat. The only time when we put a shirt (my sis's shirt when she was a baby) was when we would go out to play in the snow.

If the dog is really tiny and has little to no fur to keep it warm, yes put on a doggie sweater to keep it warm when you take it for a walk, but other wise no, W

hen I had my dog, I used to put a winter cap on his head just to be cute, but he would always kind of knock it off his head, it was pretty funny.

My dog is too big for the clothes they sell so I am going to knit him a sweater for Christmas myself :-)
I think dressing up your pets is frivolous fun and usually not necessary but at least you know the animals are well loved and not stuck outside and ignored like so many.

Unless the dog is hairless, it's just plain humiliating. What are the owners thinking?!! As for cats, good luck getting them into something like that!
I hate to see pics of animals in clothes. I understand where it's coming from, but they are animals. It's not like they're going to say to their friends, "OMG! It took me FOREVER to pick out my outfit today! Then I had to iron it, and and by the time I did all that I just said Forget it! I'll just go naked!"

I put a vest on my dog during the winter time, but other then that I don't..... People have to realize that they are DOGS and not BABIES to dress up in cute clothes. Holidays are exceptions because obviously it's funny to dress a dog up like a witch on Halloween, etc.
;-D

Another thing I hate is when people put tiny dogs into their bags, purses, etc. If you are going into a plane, etc. it's okay but not if you are walking around downtown Chicago with your cup of Starbucks. ;-D

i would only recommend dressing up dogs in the winter. but it's only necessary if it is a small dog like a chihuahua. if you have a big or medium dog don't bother with clothes, it irritates them.and if it gets cold outside bring in the house and wrap a blanket around it.

hope this helps :-D
