"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

I love this particular Aristotle quote.
Shame on me for daring to add my two cents to the work of a master, but I think in many ways this sort of approach to life might be more indicative of courage than education. I’ve met many educated people who are unwilling to consider the opposition because they’re frightened that their own opinions can’t handle the heat. Same thing with those who refuse to acknowledge the dark side of life, hoping it will go away (you know the type… they always choose Shirley Temple flicks over horror films or suspense thrillers). They’re too afraid to admit that a bit of fascination with the macabre is part of the human condition.

But on a lighter note….

My favorite person to quote is author Terry Pratchett:
"Luck is my middle name. Mind you, my first name is Bad."
or
"The good thing about a stake through the heart is that it also works on non-vampires."

And one of my fave quotes of all time is attributed to “unknown”:
Just because you’re not paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.

=)

Oh wow! I forgot about that great quote! (I had to do a report on Aristotle back in the day, and always had that quote in my head) I read a book as a young teen that had this quote: "Guilt makes one hate everything associated with that thing." True!

Ah yes I most certainly do... My favorite quote isn't quite so eloquent but it certainly holds true today as in years past... "What goes around comes all the way back around"

I think it is true.

One of my favorites is by a bipolar friend of mine (I have BP too):

"I may not be able to make it through today, but I can make it through this minute."

There's another one I like that used to be on a wooden sign that hung on the wall between the bedrooms of my sister and myself. It said:

"Dear LORD,

Help me on this day,
To keep my big mouth shut.

~Amen."

I like that one too . . . I repeat it a lot when the other women in the shelter get to me.
