In case they crash or have to eject before they hit their target. The whole purpose of being a kamikaze is to take out a target with your plane. If you are unable to for whatever reason, it is better to bail out or crash land somewhere with hopes of getting another shot at it later, rather than to just die for nothing. Therefore, wearing a helmet to increase your safety is still beneficial.

1. So they can use the radio headphones, which were built in to the helmets.
2. The cockpits of those planes were not very well heated... to protect them from cold -- they still had to complete the mission... if they got cold, they would not think or perform right or even pass out.
3. To protect them from shrapnel and shards of glass/acrylic if the cockpit canopy got hit with machine-gun fire from another fighter.

Then they would have to wear those goggles with no helmet and that would just look ridiculous. Like underwear and socks.

OSHA requires that all fighter plane pilots wear a helmet. It was also probably a requirement for their worker's compensation insurance.

because there are regulations they had to follow and some of the kamikazees werent crzy they jumped out before the plane was about to hit....maybe they might survive
