Breastmilk is so efficiently absorbed by the baby's body, that there sometimes just is not waste. It's nothing to worry about at all. My daughter has gone up to 4 days before. My doctor told me that he wouldn't want to see her unless it had been over a week, and that he'd had one patient go 3 weeks without a BM before. It's nice not to change so many poopy diapers sometimes!

As long as the baby doesn't seem constipated (in pain, hard stomach, etc) and is still passing gas, it's absolutely normal!

It is fine. As long as the baby is having more then 4 wet diapers in a day, he is fine. Most likely he will have more, but they are will not become worried unless it is less then 4 wet ones.

Some breastfeed babies go poo every 10 minutes, others don't go for over a week. It is normal. One thing you have to watch out for. When it has been a while between dirty diapers, they tend to be HUGE, and VERY messy. Usually exploding out of the diaper. (sorry for being a bit graphic)

It is normal for breast fed babies not to poop every day. When my son was 2 months old he only pooped once a week. He was completely healthy. The nurse is right, breast milk is absorbed easier and there is much less waste to poop.

I dont know... my nurses and ped said that the baby needed at least like 5 poopy diapers and 10 wet........ the wet being most important. But I never heard that its ok for a newborn to go that long...

I have heard the opposite of breastfed babies, they poop constantly, mine would have a poopy diaper like every 2 hours.

I breastfed and my daughter skipped up to 3 or 4 days and then she would go and not stop (it was always runny)... You can probably call the doc just to double check because they will know what things to ask as far as symptoms (how the stomach feels, any fussiness, passing gas, and eating patterns) ... nothing wrong with being concerned..Congrats on the new baby

Yes that sounds right. My baby did this. It took him a week to do his first poop (granted he pooped in utero).

Breast fed babies do absorb much more than their formula fed counterparts, because breastmilk is designed by nature, not by man, and is therefore much more efficient.

Perfectly normal...my son did the same thing. Then practically exploded. Iw as told that some babies can go up to 3 days without having a poo.

Yes when they are first out most babys on breast milk - because it is so much easier to absorb - do not poop alot but don't worry they will do that soon enough. If she wants to make sure the baby is not constipated she can put a little prune juice in the milk. If the baby will drink that - then he should poo within the day. When feeding small babies juice you need to half and half it with water. So it won't be too strong. My baby was a preemie and so she had tummy trouble and the prune juice always worked on her.

yes its normal, but it won't make her feel any better to hear that

my son didn't poo for a week

I used to just make sure i ate healthy and drank plenty of water, took my prenatal vitamins

then if he didn't poo , i would get the vaseline and stick some on the thermometer and hold it up there til the poo came out

eventually when he started jars he went fine

and funny enough he eats all the time , constantly, but only poos 1 time per day now,

he is one year old
