Every woman, and every pregnancy is different. My labor was intense for about 8 hours, but it lasted about 36...My boss, didn't have any pains, and was tripping on the monitor that measures the contractions. I have another friend that was in intense labor for maybe half and hour, and started pushing. I want to be like my boss this time around!!!!!!!!!! Either that or have a REALLY good epidural, which I didn't have last time.
You don't have to go to the hospital until your contractions are about 4-5 minutes apart. And I got sent home because I wasn't dialated when my contractions were 2.5 minutes apart, so it all depends on how it is going. When in doubt, call your doctor, and they will call the hospital and make sure you get admitted.
Good luck, and don't worry, you'll forget about the unpleasantness soon enough and have a beautiful baby!

It really all depends on the person. I was in labor for about 12 hours, but I was only in the hospital for about 6 of those 12. Some people it takes longer. A lot depends on how active you were during pregnancy. If you were active, it shouldn't be that long (meaning not the 32 hours that some women have to endure). Just don't worry about the time. If the docs are worried about you or the baby, they'll give you pitosin, which speeds up the whole process. Pay attention to when your water breaks. Some women experience a gush of fluid, I hardly noticed anything different until I went to the hospital and they told me my water broke. It's unsafe for the baby to be inside you too long (24 hours is too long).
No worries! Just ride it out, that's about all you can do.

you go to the hospital when your between 10 minutes apart and 3-5 minutes apart. It depends really on how away from the hospital you live. Or if your water breaks you go right away , because after 24 hours infection can set in. I was in labor with my first for 19 hours , my water broke first and I lived 40 minutes away so i went right away. No one can tell you how long you'll be in labor for. Its your body who decides that unless you get a C-section.

By the time you are really feeling the pain, you'll want to be in the hospital!! You'll know. As far as how long labor is, that varies, really. I was in labor for about ten hours with each of my kids, but I had an epidural so it wasn't that big of a deal.

i was in labor for 2 weeks with my second child but they say its not actual labor until your at least 5cm and are having regular contractions that are 5 Min's apart lasting for a minute they do tend to send you home if you go in and your not in established labor
with my other two pregnancy's it was a few days but these things can go on like that some women have fast labors and some have long labors like me lol
still soon over and well its worth all the trouble and pain in the end
good luck with your pregnancy

I went in labor at midnight I did not go to the hospital tell 5 am I waited tell the contractions were about ten to 15 min apt. My daughter I rushed in faster because her head was in virgina and I knew that she would pop out like popcorn so wanted some one to catch her. But I ended up sitting at the hospital for 6hrs. So i would relax at home when they first start for about 30 to 60 min depending on how far apart they are.

You usually go to the hospital, depending how far you live from the hospital, when your contractions are between 5-10 minutes apart. If you have had complications they may want you there sooner. You can labor at home till the doctors want you there. Talk to your doctor and they will let you know what they expect.

The only rule is that everyone's different. Some women have their baby at home in a few minutes, some have to be in hospital for days. Some cope perfectly happily with the pain, others find it unbearable. I wouldn't set your heart on knowing which you're going to be beforehand, because your body may decide otherwise. (Having been someone whose carefully planned natural birth became an induction followed by an epidural followed by an emergency C-section myself).

12 hours with the first and 14 with the second. I suggest you got o the hospital as soon as you think your in labor. The docs will be able to monitor the baby's heartbeat and make sure every things ok. Also anesthesia sometimes gets backed up so you don't want to get to the hospital so late that you can't get an epidural. (if you're getting one...which i suggest) :)

Well I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and it depends on the woman. With my son my water broke at home and with my daughter my water never broke. By the time I got to the hospital I was 7 centimeters!!! You will only probaby be in the hospital a couple days if u have no complications. Good luck and God Bless.
