I have a friend who is partially colorblind. He talked about how other people learned to experience color through emotion. You know, red for anger, green for envy, blue for sadness, etc.

Generally when some is color its just one or two colors that they can't "see"....(ie they'll see something as red when its truly green).

Therefore to teach someone colors you need to figure out which is the color they have trouble seeing. Then they just need to remember that when they see something that is red then to the rest of the world its green...and so therefore its green.

It can also be helpful to create a list to tape to a closet door and/or carry around with them that they can refer to when they are first learning to help remember which colors are which.

You have to talk in terms of "shades of brightness", The only difference they can tell is light and dark.They see colors as shadows. Think of how you would explain a black and white photograph.

You could also use feeling.
Red = excitement
Blue = cool and calm
Black = sad
Green = that feeling you get when spring comes
Yellow = the feeling of the sun warming you up
etc.

Good luck!

Taste?

You could give them a slice of orange for an orange, and sweet red peppers for red, etc. You could also use touch: cool water for blue.

Good luck! :)

I dunno, a colorblind person wouldn't know what a certain color looks like therefore would have no concept or experience of it.
