Simple fact. Men have an awesome ability to focus on one thing at a time. Women are better at multi-tasking.

There was a study done some time ago about people who grew up watching Sesame Street. The study suggested that such shows, which consist of short, quick "sound bites" have contributed to shorter attention spans. Because many children are exposed to this from a young age, and for a number of years, they have grown used to material which is quick, colourful, easily digestible. That is one theory on why current generations--or those since the advent of Sesame Street--have shorter attention spans than people from previous generations.

It doesn't necessarily mean that his attention span is short...he obviously was paying great attention to the conversation he was having on the phone (that shows he can pay attention...lol!) Some people just have a lot of trouble multi-tasking, while others are much better at it. I, myself, cannot have a phone conversation and do other things (very well) at the same time. When I'm talking to someone (or listening to someone), I give my full attention to the person I am talking to. This makes it difficult to pay attention to other things. (My kids love to take advantage of this fact. They tend to know that this is the best time to try to "get away with" something..lol!) It's also the reason you won't catch me talking on a cell phone while I'm driving!
LOL!

He told you to stop bothering him? I would have turned the oven off and left the brownies in the oven. Some things are not worth arguing over, and people like him must learn the consequences of their actions.

It sounds as though your brother has a serious case of attention deficeit disorder. Some people are type A personality and their brains are processing fifty things at once. It isn't that they are not paying attention, they are not focusing on one single task. When that happens, things like burned (or torched in your brother's case) brownies happen. He needs to learn to focus on what he is doing when he is doing it.

he and a full focused attention span just on the wrong thing!
Looks like that phone call distracted and took his focus from the cooking (i cook and it's easy to forget you have somethign in the over due to cook times) TIMER helps but if you where yelling at hime then he should of picked up on it!

So let me get this straight. You were in the next room, and could smell the brownies burning, and didn't do anything abouth them until they caught on fire?
Now neither of you get to eat brownies!

I hate to say it, but most men in my experience have selective hearing: they only hear what they want to. Short attention span has to do with patience ( a very important virtue ). It would not be a virtue however, if it was easily obtained. Smile.

Listen Marie, short attention spans are nothing new in men. Unless you're talking about women, cars, football or all three they tend to tune out. His friend was probably talking about all three!
