They should be more worried about teaching us than what we have on! My parent agrea lol Now thats sad! hahahe

I see the both the positive and negative points with school uniforms. I do have to comment that you must attend a very wealthy school district because a public school system should not be allowed to require it's students to purchase a uniform. Unless dress code was a real problem at your school (and I know it can be), I can think of better ways that money be spent to benefit students academically.

I attended public school and was not required to wear a uniform.

EDIT: You posted your details while I was writing my response. I do not know how a school district can legally require that it's students pay for a uniform. The wonderful thing about the education system in our country is that every person has the right to a FREE, public education. Smells like a student protest to me....

I'm a strong advocate for compulsory wearing of school uniforms...

The reasons for this is because, not all families can afford the latest fashions or brand names and that serves as a wedge between who can afford what in this world.

Another reason, what if you land a job after school and their requirement is to wear their uniform? If you're used to wearing them to begin with, it won't be an issue and you may stay gainfully employed.

Btw, I was always in uniform at the schools I attended (which were public schools) and so was my daughter. I'll be expecting my son to wear one when he starts school as well.

Yes it's right !!! It keeps the kids who's parents can't afford to buy their kids all the in clothes thus keeping them from being picked on by the bratty kids whose parents really can't afford all those in clothes either !!!! It is also a big help to parents who have multiple kids in school at the same time !!! How can they afford all those in clothes !!! It's time all students dress alike !!!! Then you all will be treated the same !!! Dressing alike in uniforms is the wave of the future anyway !!! You must not have watched any of the Star Treks !!!! And book rental has sky rocketed !!! So hush and be thankful for what you have !!!!!! *smile*

I think it is better to have kids were uniforms. Sorry, I was raised dirt poor and we couldn't afford "cool" clothes. I used to get picked on big time for wearing hand me downs and home made stuff. The school here doesn't have uniforms but they do have very strict dress code policies.

I wouldn't mind wearing a uniform to school. But then again, I don't get too hung up over clothes.

And most people have some sort of uniform for their job, so kids should get used to it.

Well I am a mother of 4 children, and there's 2 sides to it! Because my daughter started high school few days ago. And Last week we had to go to the school to get her PE clothes and pic ID. The security lad y said my daughter couldn't step into the school because she was wearing " burgundy " shirt underneath white shirt. They told us that it's gang related!!!
We thought it was only the " color red " nor she can't wear solid BROWN, PINK!
So what I am trying to say is on our issue's here where we live. We should go by uniforms because their telling us what to wear what not to wear, etc.etc!!! Even done to her shoes!
So we had to go back home and had her change! And school wasn't in session yet!!!

my school wants us to wear uniforms, but we never do. i personally dont like the uniform policy at all. not even my mom does. when i was in elementary school my mom even sent a note to the principal about how she didnt want me to wear a uniform and everything, so i didnt have to, lol. but if you think about it, if everyone did wear uniform, it would narrow down some stuff that some kids pick on others for. i just choose not to wear it... =]

My old school has uniforms. It's boring and annoying. Though we did break the rules a bit with shoes and hair =3

I wore uniforms to school for thirteen years. Uniforms take the focus OFF of clothing and ONTO studying. Uniforms help to eliminate frivolous competition among kids that leads to cliques. Uniforms help to establish a sense of community within a school. You have weekends and all summer to express yourself through your clothes, even though you should really try to express yourself through WHO you are rather than WHAT you wear.
