Well, he didn't really have any hope of reproducing, now did he...? I mean, if you look at all the episodes where he takes a flying leap overhead and they panned the camera upward while he was there, if you have good eyes and a little common sense you realize that the poor guy had NO GENITALS...! There was nothing there but white skin...!
I remember, I was little at the time, but even I knew what that meant. He would never be able to attract a mate and propagate his kind. Whatever his specific mutation was, that caused him to be born white, also caused him to be born sterile. So, I feel sorry for him, but it is a comort to know that other healthy lions without those detrimental mutations are still alive in zoos and game preserves.

no, it didn't.
because he's nothing but a figure, drawn by some artist, and animated by other artists.
you should think more about the animals that starred Free Willy (Keico), or Flipper, or Lassy and so on. These were at least real living animals, and not animations.
