There is a nice guide on infant feeding put out by the USDA. They state that between 4-6 months is when most babies (FULL TERM BABIES) are ready to eat solid foods.
Please check out the site. It gives a lot of helpful information.

That sounds perfect!

My son was eating 24-32 oz a day at 5 months. He didn't start solids until he was 7 1/2 months old.

EDIT TO ADD:
I do realize that 32-38 oz is the "recommended" daily amount for an infant of 5 months. But every baby is different. My baby always ate less, yours may want more... I was giving him expressed breastmilk, so I don't know if a formula baby would need more or less than a breastfed baby.

Have you tried oatmeal or rice cereal? My infant (2 months) drinks about 28 oz. throughout the day. You should really ask your ped. doc. about this. 24-28oz. is the average for a newborn that is fed 2oz. every 2-3 hours.
Is your baby crying for bottles/breastmilk? Is he still feeding every 2-3 hours? Is he consistently gaining weight on the scale that a 5 month should?
If your baby is always crying to be fed or drinking a bottle then wanting more, no he is not getting enough. Try oatmeal or rice cereal, but not in a bottle and try to get his stomack adjusted to things other then liquids.
If he is in his weight range for his age/starting birth weight and content between feedings he may be getting enough. Some people strictly breast feed their children till 1 year.

He seems like he is growing very well actually. Doctors say that a baby is supposed to double their birth weight by 5 months, and triple it by a year. So he is gaining weight really well, and as for solid foods, I started feeding my daughter at 4 months, but she also got teeth early. I wouldnt worry about starting it until about 6 or 7 months...... Hope this helps, you are doing just fine :)

According to this pamphlet that I got from wic a 5 month old should be getting 32-38 oz of formula a day. Its no problem that you are not giving him food..by all means you can wait till they are 6 months old. But yeah if you arent giving him any other food then i would probably give him more formula so he can gain weight properly. I have twins that were preemies so the doc always wanted me to give them a little more so they would gain weight better.

Is he gaining weight regularly and growing? If so, he is getting enough.

This is a hard question to answer because even babies who fall outside the growth charts can be perfectly fine but just happen to be petite.

Solids are really just play food up until they get teeth. They generally don't have enough calories to make any difference.

Someone has been working hard at motherhood! If he is happy and growing (apparently he is), next checkup should be great! I know premies are worrysome but relax and let the baby grow at his own rate. I had two kids that were 16 pounds at a year old and perfectly fine.
Take a deep breath and go on to the next development stage: moving, crawling and toddling! Good work mom.

yes he is getting enough he does not need any nutrients from solid foods until age 6 months. As far as the ammount of milk he needs the needed ammount is between 30 and 38 ounces of milk a day so you can increase it if he is hungry but he is within the normal limits.

good luck

hmm it all depends on the baby. is he cries alot??? it means he's hungry and he wants more. that means 30oz is not enough for him. u should feed him onces and feed him till he throughz is out of his mouth meaning he is not hungry anymore. I started giving water to my daughter when she was 4 and started baby food when she was 4 n half... i think it's time u should start giving little bit of baby food. how about some baby cookies????? mach banana? boiled potato? that would help him alot.
