Unless you caused the damage yourself somehow, it should not cost you anything. Every car sold in US, regardless of original warranty, also carries a Federal Emissions Warranty that is 5 years or 60,000 miles. Go see your dealer and ask them if they would cover the converter under the emissions warranty. You will be surprised how many things are covered under it: pretty much anything related to fuel, i.e. fuel pump, fuel injectors, ignition system, computer that controls ignition.

I hope this helps.

well some of these guys are on the right track.
the catalytic converter is covered under federal emission guidelines for up to 8 years or 80,0000 miles whichever comes first.
so I'm hoping for your sake, that you have less than 80,000 miles.
should you need to purchase one, it's very expensive
you can also go to a muffler shop and have them install a one size fits all CAT for a lot less ,but if you don't have intentions on selling the car in the foreseeable future, i would get the factory CAT.

In your case nothing. The federal goverement mandate that the converter las as long as the life of the car. Unless you damageged it in some way it should be replaces free at the dealer. Your car is only 4 years old and the converter should last a lot longer then that.

Now if you do need it replaces and it was damaged, about 300 for the converter is not unheard of. Catt a muffler shop( call more then one) and ask the price to get it replaced.

It'll cost whatever the dealer wants for one. I don't care how long a dealer tech has been at the dealer- he must be a lube tech if he's telling you to get an aftermarket one, as they will not work with the OBD2 system on the car. Fix it once, fix it right. Remember it doesn't cost anymore to go first class, ya just can't ride as far. Best bet is to get a GM convertor and have the car hassle free for a LONG time- no check engine lights.
