President Bush has taken 423 vacation days in his time in office. Reagan has the current record with 436 vacation days.

Bush has been in office just over 6 1/2 years, and has already had well over a year of vacation time.
What do you think of this? Is it setting a good example for the rest of the country that the President has taken over a year of vacation in just over 6 1/2 years?

I am not talking about the Senators and Representatives, I am talking about Bush. Nice job throwing in a red herring.

I do not like the fact that Representatives and Senators take so much vacation either, but I am talking about Bush, not them.

dallas- most people nowadays take their cell phone with them on vacation, so they are on call too. The fact that Bush is on call does not negate the fact that he is on vacation. I am sure most people would like to spend 1 out of 6 years on call, but they can't.

Jason- Although he is on call 24/7, he can still go on vacation. By going to someplace like his Texas Rancch he is on vacation. He ceases to be on vacation if a situation requiring his attention arises.

To everyone who says that he is equally able to do his work on vacation than in Washington, why even go on vacation? If by going to these places he isn't really going on vacation, then why go at all?

Bob- Shouldn't someone be aware of all the work when they run for the Presidency?

He's probably going to set a lot more records than just vacation days. I believe making this comment was a pretty good way of saying "We (US citizens) are not looking at what is going on in America." "What is our government, not just the president doing? What can we as Americans do to help our government which should be our people?

Its the most stressful job on the planet. Regardless of how many days he is on vacation, don't you think that he is having daily meetings about national security, Iraq, etc. I would view that as working.

When I take a vacation, I go somewhere where I don't listen to the radio, deal with work issue, and can just enjoy time with my family and friends. I am afraid that regardless of who is in the White House (Bush, Clinton, FDR, etc.), they are working 365 days a year with limited time off.

you do realize taking a vacation is not like he goes off to ski and forgets about his job. you also know that camp David and Crawford and Airforce One has the exact same accessibility as any office he would be in in the white house. I guess common sense doesn't mean much when people think they can score a political point.

I'm surprised that the left cares in a negative way. Considering he is always available at a moments notice is he really on vacation. He is a manager not a person at a workbench.

Give the guy a break... have you ever been to Crawford, Texas? You'd be surprised at the amount of brush there that needs clearing on a regular basis. I mean..the country can run itself, right?

Oh, for the good old days, when "Tonight Show" host and frequent vacationer Johnny Carson used to say, "Ronald Reagan spends more time in California than I do!"

But then, Reagan was only a little foggy. Bush is a toxic cloud of sloth, greed and corruption.

"It's hard work. It's hard work. It's hard work." -- George W. Bush, Presidential debate, September 30, 2004

"I do not shrink from this responsbility. I welcome it." -- John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961

Clinton also worked hard. Bush Sr. worked hard, even if he did like his August vacations in Maine. Heck, even Nixon worked hard -- whatever else we can say about him, he wasn't a lazy bum.

No president actually takes a vacation. In fact no president gets a weekend or holiday. The president receives briefings several times a day whether he is in the White House or at some other location. He also continues to administer all other executive activities during this time. Sorry to disappoint you but the presidency is a job that allows no time off.

That's a bogus lib construct, because when Bush goes to Texas, he is not on vacation. He takes his work with him.

Did you ever vacation with the Prime Minister of Great Britain? Bush did...Michael Moore even took a picture of it...but he didn't see Blair on the porch.

The senators and Representatives do the same thing but take more time off than Bush.
