How are you measuring speed? Home to first? First to third? Stolen bases? Amount of ground covered in the field? The answers to each of those may well be different. That said Here's my take.

Slowest: The slowest person I've ever seen on the diamond has got to be Mark McGuire. My grandma could beat him in a foot race.

Fastest: I'm not sure what you mean by "recent years" but for my money the fast player I ever saw was Vince Coleman. The man could fly and as far as i know was the last man to steal 100 bases in a season.

ok all u guys are pathetic. seriously get some back up
ok now ur faster players will be either a centerfielder, Right fielder, or shortstop. now in contending with thoses there are Jimmy Rollins, Ichiro, and Jose Reyes which out of those its gonna be Ichiro as the Fastest player. Now the Slowest players are the Power Hitters, pitchers, and catchers. now these contending are Pat Burrell, Mike Piazza, and Barry Bonds which im sadly saying isnt Bonds or Piazza but Philadelphia's Crapola left Fielder Pat Burrell. so there u have it Ichiro's the Fastest and Pat Burrell's the Slowest.

The fastest is probably Jose Reyes.
The slowest is no doubt Yadier Molina.

Mike Shannon has said that the slowest man ever was Dick Groat.
Lou Brock knew how to run the bases. May not have been the fastest of all time, but he tore up those basepaths.

Jose reyes is proaly the fastest in the bigs right now Richie sexson is probably the slowest (although it only takes him probably five fewer steps to reach base than most everyone else).
In the past Mark grace is the slowest human I have ever seen he could turn a sliding triple into a standup single.

Fastest- Definitely JOSE REYES (#7), then Joey Gathright, Carlos Gomez (Mets Rookie), Carl Crawford, and then Ichiro.

Slowest- Edgar Martinez (retired), Mo Vaughn (retired), Jason Phillips, and Jorge Posada.

The fastest Vince Coleman. Did you see this guy run? That speaks for itself.

The slowest Sid Bream. Did you see him chugging to home in the playoffes 10 years ago or so? Most professional athletes could run faster than that backwards.

I hope these qualify as recent years. If not, I'll take Juan Pierre as the fastest and Frank Thomas as the slowest.

Joey Gathright was timed the fastest i believe from home to first... and i was watching a mets game and both Reyes and Gotay admitted that Gotay is faster in a sprint than Reyes... Reyes is not that fast... his baserunning ability is amazing... i am sure he is up there for top 10 but i imagine there are a lot of guys that are real fast and just never play
