It's roughly twice as potent, but they typically don't have as much quantity of venom in their bites.

"According to Dr. G.B. Edwards, an arachnologist with the Florida State Collection of Arthropods in Gainesville, the brown widow venom is twice as potent as black widow venom. However, they do not inject as much venom as a black widow, are very timid, and do not defend their web. The brown widow is also slightly smaller than the black widow."

the Black Widow is rarely deadly to humans, although the very young and old are at some risk. they usually live in log or wood piles and avoid people when they can. Only the female is poisonus. and the venom is used to make anti venom to treat bites. BW are fairly common in the Southwest, but not in cooler wetter climates. i kept one as pet once, she lived about 2 yrs
