Im taking chem online and the book I have is awful. I dont understand reactions and how to predict them. Can anyone help me with this question. Thanks!

Predict whether a reaction is likely to occur for the following. If so, write the net ionic reaction.
a) MgBr2 (aq) + ZnSO4 (aq) 
b) BaS (aq) + CuSO4 (aq) 

A visible reaction might not occur in a.) because if you work out the reaction, no insoluble substance would be formed.

For b.) however, a visible reaction might occur, because if you work out the reaction, the products are insoluble.
Ba2+ (aq) + S2- (aq) + Cu2+ (aq) + SO42- (aq) = BaSO4 (s) + CuS (s)

CsOH + HBr --> CsBr + H2O Cs+a million + OH- + H+ + Br- --> Cs+a million + Br- + H2O(l) = entire ionic H+ + OH- --> H2O = internet ionic Mg(OH)2 + 2HNO3 --> Mg(NO3)2 + 2H2O Mg+2 + 2OH- + 2H+ + 2NO3- --> Mg+2 + 2NO3- + 2H2O(l) = entire ionic H+ + OH- --> H2O = internet ionic do an identical for the final 2, the precipitate is going to be water in each and all of the final 2 equations

Glad I'm not the only one stuck on that problem.
I'm not fond of that book either and the online notes leave something to be desired.

Good luck on the question, remember the class is almost over (yes, I'm in the same class, found this from my buddy google and yahoo.)

a. all combinations are soluble, so no reaction occurs
b. CuS is incredibly insoluble, so the following precipitation (double decomposition/double replacement) occurs:

Cu2+(aq) + S2-(aq) -----> CuS(s)
