I've noticed that many Italian-Americans like to act as if watching The Sopranos & The Godfather and talking with a cocky Brooklyn accent as if it "makes them Italian" by doing so. I'm not one to judge, but if you are so proud of your culture, why not learn the Italian language and actually go to Italy instead of acting like the American representation of Italian people and being content to do so? I noticed that there's actually more "wannabe-Italian"-Americans than ACTUAL Italian-Americans here? I see the difference.

I can see if you were born in that area and that's how you were raised, so don't misconstrue me, but I've met Italians from areas that were suburban and universal and they talked like that just because they thought they were being Italian by being like that.

well lemintmuffin, my point exactly. unless you know the culture, don't wave around acting like you are of that ethnicity when you know nothing about it.

anyways idahomike, be quiet, if someone wants to keep their culture alive within reason, there's no reason he or she can't.

When Italians emigrated from Italy, they landed in New York City. They picked up the accent there. They have the Italian accent when they speak English, which became a Brooklyn accent because there were so many Italians living there. Some of my relatives speak like that, not because they are trying to, but that is how they really talk. The accent is still in my family.

And to the first answerer, thanks for insulting my whole family. How do you think you got here? Your family came over from another country. No one was in America from day one. And yeah, Sicily isn't that good anymore, but it's not crap. I think you are full of it, though.

There is no such thing as as "italian-American"... one is either an Italian or an American... If you are an American then be an American...if you want to be an italian then go to italy and become an Italian.... when one who is an italian wishes to become an american he studies and takes a test and takes an oath to become an American...at that instant he ceases tobe an Italian and becomes an American... if your parents or other ancestors were Italians but you were born in The USA then you are an American... not an Italian... drop the hyphen...
