It relates to the size of your breast.
An A cup would be a small breast, a DD would be large.
You measure cup size by putting one end of the tape measure on your chest, running it over the fullest part of one boob, and reading the other end.
An A cup is about 7 inches.
Each additional inch is one cup size.
The number that goes with the letter represents the band size -- the measurement around your chest.

Cup size is the difference between band size of a bra (or swimsuit) and the measurement across the fullest part of the bust. The larger the difference, the larger the cup size.
In the US, the range of typical cup sizes is AA, A, B, C, D, and DD, although some manufacturers use other letters for the large sizes.

HUH?
Measure around the chest under the breast. Add four if its an even number and five if its an odd number, that is the band size.
Measure around the breast at the widest part. Subtract band size from this measurement.
1" is an A, 2" is a B, 3" is a C, etc.
That is how you measure for cup size.
Bra sizes are not standard, so you could be a 38C in one bra and a 38DD in another bra.

the cup size measures your breast, unlike the band, which measures under. ok, what you do is take a tape measure and wrap it around your breasts. Then you take the 2 numbers and subtract them. Then, if it's 1 it's A, if it's 2 it's B and so on. If it's less than 1, it's AA. Well, you get it.
