Whereas mouse and keyboard are plugged in using PS/2 port, but can they be plugged in using USB port?

Yes, they can, and they will operate more efficiently using a USB port than a PS/2 port. As one answer told you, you can buy adapters to convert them from PS/2 to USB.

Yes, but if you have the old style, you need to buy an adapter (about $15.00 for both) The new mouse and keyboards come with usb connectors.
