I live in Downtown Houston and I can tell you that today CNN cut over to a live press conference that was showing the city officials in Houston already planning a contingency plan for Houston. It is very likely that Dean could hit us and even if the eye of the storm stays a little South of Houston, we'll still get a lot of weather from it.

The Woodlands is about 30 miles North of Downtown but I recall that during Rita a couple years ago (in spite of it not being a huge hurricane), The Woodland experienced a lot of wind damage. They can still get a lot of the weather up there as it isn't that far from the coast. Tell your family to prepare just in case.

First of all, The Woodlands is safe because it is far from the coast. Second of all, tell them not to leave because I need to get out of Galveston (down the highway from Houston) and I live on the beach. Remember Rita, everybody from the Woodlands, Katy, and Brookshire left and when the most harmed people in GALVESTON could not get out. I was one of those "harmed" people that were unabled to leave and the catogory 5 storm's eye headed right for my dog Cocoa's butt.
Anyways, there is still great deal of time on hand to see where Dean goes. Do not worry intill it goes into The Gulf of Mexico.

If it comes to Houston or not we still have the rain to worry about. It floods in Houston at the drop of a dime. It can rain hard for 45 minutes and start flooding. Now whats gonna happen when we get all this rain if Dean hits?

Hurricane Dean is 6 days away, It's predicted that it wont make land fall, however winds and flood will probably affect Galveston and about 40-50 miles in. The woodlands I believe will probably have floods, but no lives will be taken. you can track it on the weather channel. just type in there zip code.

You should know better by Monday. In regards to damage in The Woodlands, one of the major concerns by residents are the trees. No worrying about storm surge; just the wind and rain.

Its way too early to determine that right now. The models indicate that it may head to central America or Yucatan peninsula (best estimate). It may even curve up north into Florida. If it reaches in the Gulf of Mexico then we will have to see where its going from there. Go to the National Hurricane Center to track Dean in the coming days:- http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
