I went to Model Productions, which one is located in Sawgrass Mills, FL, and there was an open call. I made it to the finals, but I need to pay $150 for portfolio, pictures, and the event. If I make it, I get a one-year contract. But I think it's a scam since I had to pay upfront, but my mom doubts it. We already paid 50 dollars, and if we pay 150 dollars, we get shots that I can use in other agencies. But should I stick with it, or leave the 50?
They say they haven't had a complaint from BBB, and are there websites to detect legit and fake agencies? Thanks!

I was reading ur e mail and wanting to respond. I too enlisted in model productions and made it to the final call. Today i did the event which was composed of acting and run way. Next week I find out if I were one of the those that made it and to received my photos.

Now to address if this is fake. I did my research also and asked a multitude of questions. I feel this is good exposure if this is what u would like to do. I agree with ur mother. For 150.00 u get photos 8x10, a shirt and able to participate in mall show. it's all about exposure. Im already linked with an agency for commerical modeling. i have to say 150.00 is nothing, especially if you u want pictures. Composites cards are pricey.

it depends what kind of modeling u fit. not every one is run way or fashion. now for high fashion agencies in ny will sign u exclusively.
in florida, agencies are non exclusive and you are an independent agent. u are responsible for providing pictures of your self. they find u work and u go to castings. if this is what u want to do go thru with model productions. remember its about exposure and being able to carry your self in front of a crowd.

so good luck!!!!.

Yes, of course it is a scam!
Anytime a modeling agency asks you for money, it's a SCAM. Legitimate Modeling Agencies, NEVER ask for money.

They want $150 for a portfolio, another sign of scam.
Legitimate Modeling Agencies in NYC, never ask the model for money.

Tell your mom, you are correct, and she is wrong.

Do NOT give the agency additional money.
Legitimate Modeling Agencies pay for the photographs, until the model makes money.

If you pay $150 dollars you get shots you can use in other agencies. Ha ha! Once you are signed with one agency you do NOT work with another agency.
You only work with the agency that signed you. (scam)

Hon, you and your mom should quickly run from that scam agency.

The only professional modeling agencies are in NYC and L.A. You can't become a model that easy.

Move to NYC if you want to model, with legitimate modeling agency such as Ford, Click, iMG and other agencies.

Sounds like they are just using the applicants to fund their business. Get professional shots done yourself and then visit big cities and call yourself to try to get appointments at real agencies. This one is a fraud. Also, call department stores and see if they ever need amateur models for shows (won't pay but it's good for your resume and you might meet people.) There is no other way.

Doesn't sound good to me. Give yourself a pat on the back for being sharp enough to not get taken. 50 bucks is chump change. Tuition in the school of life.
