I have an old piano. There's a plaque on it that says Winter Royale. Has anyone ever heard of Winter Royale? How much are these pianos?
Thanks

Winter is the brand, Royale is the model.

Winter produced pianos from 1900 to 1982, the same year that the parent company, Aeolean, went under.

The Winter pianos I have run accross looked lovely, but like most of the Aeolean brands, sounded pretty mediocre, and weren't designed for heavy use.

You haven't told us the serial number, with which we could date its year of manufacture. Most pianos of this quality have a usefull service life of about 50 years, maybe more with extraordinary care. It's not possible to assess the value of a piano without seeing it and playing it. I would not hazard a guess as to its worth without knowing at least how old it is. I would doubt that it is worth more that $500, and very likely much less.

It does not make financial sense to have such a piano refurbished -- better to spend the money on a newer instrument.

Consult the Larry Fine book "The Piano Book", or the Pierce Atlas of piano manufacturers. At one time, there were several THOUSAND piano brands in the US alone - many were *stencil* pianos - made by someone else for them. Many were just cheap pianos. Could be that the IVORY on the keys is worth more than the instrument - if in fact it is real.

OK - I just pulled out the Fine book - no listing. But the Pierce has some info - this name was owned by Aeolian-Skinner (along with the names Iver and Pond, Kranich and Bach, and many others) Their numbering starts with 4000 in the year 1900. By 1950 their numbers were 265000. They made the first spinet or condole piano ( very low in back - short strings, NOT a good piano - for amateurs only) in 1935.

I have been around piano stuff for a while. I have never heard of the brand that you gave. It might be a 'one-of-a-kind'. Sorry I can't help you.

I'm not familiar with the name "Winter Royale". It may be a name from the far east.
