Well, since it was only flat at the bottom to start off with, all that huffing and puffing getting the thing off has warmed up the remaining air in the tyre and it has re-inflated itself.

I'd liked to have seen this!
When a tire on a car has low or no air pressure it's only be flat on one side, the bottom. When you take it off the car atmospheric pressure enters the leak hole and the steel belts usually make the tire look round again.
Think of a flat bicycle tire for a minute. If you lift the bike off the ground the tire no longer "looks" flat. Remember, looks are deceiving.
Enough of my BS. When in doubt have a pressure gage handy at all times and check your car tires pressure regularly.
Smile and have a good day!

Little green men?
Most of the others above have claimed it was due to releasing the weight of the car off the tire. Certainly sounds like the most plausible explanation.

That had happened to me too.. I think it is because there is no weight on the tire so it doesn't appear to be flat but if you were to put it back on the car it would definatley flatten again..

Ummm, unless you have James Bond car with self inflating tires, flat tires stay flat.
but when the car is in motion, you may not have as much dead weight on the wheel. As it spins it will expand some, which may not look as flat.

Was it really full or just looked full? Did you lean on it hard ,to check? Did you take off the right tire?

The tire pressure was low enough that it would not support the weight of the car, But it was great enough to support the weight of the rim

it wasnt full again... you took the weight of the car off the tire and so it reformed its shape....
If you put it back on and it will go flat again.................
