Where we live there is no cable or hi speed internet - heck, not even a tele line. I am looking to move my shoppe to our home but need hi speed internet to work.

Is satellite a good option? Last year I looked into it and it seemed pricey with no guarantee of service - plus a friend said it was as slow as dial up.

Has it changed for the better? Can you recommend any company for this or a better solution??

Thank you!!!

i had satellite for about 8 months until hispeed became available in my area ... it sucks but its better than dialup .. the deal with most of the satellite companies is u get allocated a chunk of bandwidth a day for hispeed .. if u go over that limit like say u stream a few youtube videos ... it will kick u down to near dialup speeds ... all u can do hispeed all day is surf web pages to avoid going over the limit .. downloading large files like over 100mb forget it .. the service was pretty constant though and it only cuts out in the most severe weather like pouring rain ..

Some satellite companies only offer fast downloads but require you to have a dial up modem for upload. So you may have just eliminated almost all Satellite internet providers.

There were some companies working on TWO WAY Satellite (upload and download) internet, but I don't believe it has been deployed yet in North America.

Satellite can be fast (much faster than dialup) but you'll have laentcy so you won't want to run VOIP applications on it. Be sure you subscribe to a satellite service that allows you to send and receive over the sat link (as opposed to sending over the phone line and receiving over the sat link)

Hughesnet.com offers a business service option. It's big in my area. They require you buy the dish. Home users have an option for time payments (15 months). I do not know if they have that for business accounts.
