I just had my car serviced a new engine put in but as I left the shop I stopped for something to eat and as I was driving my car was spewing out white smoke on the way there. After I finished up and tried to start it again my car just wouldn't start.

white smoke is water which means that you have coolant entering the combustion chamber or the exhaust.

its not uncommon for coolant to get down into the exhaust pipes during an engine swap and it takes time to burn that off as most places don't run the new engines long enough to do that.

however, the no-restart is a problem. it sounds like the head gasket is leaking on your new engine, probably because the head wasn't torqued down properly. That will allow coolant into the cylidners and foul out your spark plugs so that the car wont restart.

worst case scenario is that the new engine has a crack in the block that is causing the coolant to get into the cylinder and that would be terminal.

tow the car back to whoever did the work and have them find out why you are burning coolant. It should be on them to fix it for free.
hope that answers your question

Is it a new engine or rebuilt? Most likely it's a rebuilt because a brand new engine are hard to find if any. The shop who rebuilt the motor most likely install the head gasket improperly because white smoke means you are burning water/coolant in the combustion chambers. Check the head gasket with a leak down test.
