For the money, PCs are the better choice. More software is available, you can upgrade to high heaven, more people have them, they are incredibly flexible, and you can put a very powerful one together for much less than a comparable Mac.
Macs are difficult to upgrade and sometimes users experience compatibility issues when sharing files with other PC users. What Macs have over any other computer is that they are sexier, way sexier and when you walk into an Apple store, you just feel like you are walking into a perfect plastic future, and you are more than happy to check your wallet at the door. Once you buy a Mac, they have you. And I just love my Macs.
At this stage in the computer market, it all about personal preference. Anything you buy will have its advantages and disadvantages. You would do well to select the computer that best meets your everyday needs as well as satisfies your desires. Since most people buy a new computer every four years, whatever you choose is not a life sentence. You can always change it up in a few years.
Best of luck.

There are advantages on both sides, but for PC's, you have the wiggle room of upgrading the hardware as you wish. There are more options to do so. With Macs, it's more of a challenge to do it without going through Apple, or buying a proprietary part for the machine. When it comes to software on the net or at a store, everything's compatible with a PC. "Some" are not with a Mac.
Another advantage is that it's generally cheaper to upgrade or replace damaged parts as well.

The most important is that there is a much wider range of software for the platform. Although there is a PC emulator for the Mac and I believe most software runs on it ok. But personally I would rather have a computer that doesn't need an emulator to run the software I want.

There are none. You can run windows on a mac. That makes it the ultimate pc. No viruses on the mac side, more software on the windows side. Get the new mac.

PC is more fun and exciting. You can easily build one, mod it, tweak it endlessly, easily upgrade it anytime or put all the bells and whistles you like. You could run Windows or Linux and there are so many freewares on the net.
But I still like a Mac, the Big Mac.

With a PC you do have your choice of more games, some of which are so similar and redundant that it's ridiculous. You also get to spend more time away from your family and friends as you download virus updates and scan your hard drive for malware, adware, trojans etc.

Programs are usually made for either PC AND MAC or just PC, therefore PC has more programs that are compatible with it.
Apple has horrible support. Me and my friends always have a horrible time talking to their support, they just don't seem to know what they're doing and aren't any help.
Windows is what's used in most (I didn't say ALL) workplaces, it's good to familiarize yourself with one OS so you don't get things confused and catch yourself saying "Well I know how to do that in Windows...".
