What qualities are there which exist in a person which make them think he/she is a great person?

Basically, what I am trying to ask is what makes you believe that some person you know (not related in any way) OR have just met is a good person. Secondly, what qualities are there in a person which make you respect him/her?

Smile. An interesting question. I adore intelligent, witty and compassionate people. I won't ever get along with dishonest, self centered ignorance.

The key to earning respect from others is self respect: unless you know who you are and respect yourself, other will not give you the time of the day. I hope, that was helpful.

They have to be: kind, honest, compassionate, loyal, brave.
But I really just like people with a good heart. But if someone had all those qualities and done something worth noting then I'd definitely respect them.

Usually a first impression I base a person by how confident they are, and how much they care for themselves. A stranger knows themselves more than I do, and so if they seem confident, they probably feel good about themselves because they're good people. A person with a lack of confidence, or poor hygiene shows they might be lazy or just dont care about themselves to try harder.

Intelligence, honesty, logical, and fair.
I respect them for possessing the qualities above. Respect is earned, not given. When I meet someone I respect, I do everything I can to earn their respect in return.

We have gut feelings about those we meet--it is instinctive. It is in reading a person's body language and noticing how much eye contact they have with us and if they smile or not.
I respect people who are honest with me and have good eye contact and who do what they say they are going to do. Their body language must convey to me that they have nothing to hide.
