J.K. Rowling hands down. No it is not only because she wrote Harry Potter, Not that I am Not a fan, but she just has this incrediable imagination but she knows how to make it all fall into place and her writng is so deep, so desriptive you feel like you're there! You can just imagine what she writes. You can sense all things around and you can hear the sounds and you can smell the smells and you can feel the wind. She has this amazing writng style that no other author can even say that they compare, too. It is just great!

My taste in authors have changed over the decades as I've grown older and gained more life experience. Today in 2007 my favorite author is Anthony Trollope, a British writer who penned between 1850 and 1880, and has a wonderful writing style and prescient observations on life and the human condition.

My favorite author is C.S. Lewis, the author of "The Chronicles of Narnia Series" I like him as an author because he based his book: "The Chronicles of Narnia" to Bible. He used his talent to share a good and one of a kind book which not only entertain the readers but give lesson in life especially to children.

Many of my favourite authors have already been mentioned by others, however I would especially reccomend two from the 20th century, one American and one British.
John Steinbeck was, in my opinion, a true genius, a sort of American Charles Dickens who used his writing to expose social wrongs.
Graham Greene was one of the greatest of all English authors, writing about horror and injustice in many parts of the world. He was banned from Haiti for writing The Comedians and exposing Papa Docs regime.
If you have never read these two, they are well worth it.

Definitely Dean Koontz because I know that everytime I get a new book by him, I'm completely sucked into the story and can't put it down until I'm done. I've re-read many of his novels for the same reason. He's awesome!!!
Of course I love JK Rowling, Bryce Courtenay, Melanie Rawn, Jack Whyte, and Robert Ludlum as well.

oohhh this is hard!
OK i can't decided between Raymond E. Feist or Terry Pratchett
I love the scope of their writing.
I like Terry Pratchett because i nearly wet myself laughing when i read his stuff and i love they way you have a few stories that come together at the end.
I love Feist because his characters and worlds are truly believable and totally inspiring. I find myself rooting for certain people and am desperate to know what becomes of them.
Feist wrote my Favourite books which are "The Empire" series
So i suppose I'd have to go with Feist bit it's a hard choice!

Stephen King. His writing was different when I first read him in the 80's and he scared the bejesus out of me with Salem's Lot. He only got better as the time went on. His Dark Tower Series was a long time in the making but well worth it. I wouldn't say it was in the Lord of the Rings class but its a great tale. His more recent novels of "Cell" and "Lisey's Story" continue his master of the horror/suspense genre.

Mine is David Lodge. I like him because much of his fiction is not only humorous, but at the same time, manages to explore ideas such as postmodernism, semiotic theory and the ideas of Soren Kierkegaard in an enjoyable way. Small World and Therapy are my special favorites.
