Ducks have a kind of natural waterproofing on their feathers. Since this means the rain doesn't affect them, hence also the saying 'water off a duck's back', they seem to enjoy the wet weather a lot more than we do. It's really just because the other species - including humans - tend to get more downhearted than the ducks in rainy weather.

Because rain is water, and ducks love water. Their feathers are waterproof. Humans, on the other hand, do not have the advantage of waterproof feathers, and must seek shelter. That is why they would say, it is "weather for ducks" when it rains.

A duck has water-proof feathers. There is a special gland called the 'Preen Gland' near the duck's tail. Without this protective barrier, a duck's feathers would become water-logged and because they spend their whole lives around and in water, this water-proof barrier is extremely important. Beneath the water-proof coat are fluffy and soft feathers which keep the duck warm. Hence the term weather for Ducks
