Kapil was the more talented cricketer overall - much more talented, in fact an all-time collussus by way of batting potential, 20% of which he probably realized. However, Imran was more blessed as a bowler, not that much more though, as he always had Bakht, Nawaz, Akram, Younis etc to shoulder the burden of bowling, a luxury Kapil never had. In my view, Imran is still the fastest and greatest bowler to have come out of the subcontinent, and as a bowler alone could rub shoulders with the WI, Aus and Eng fast bowling greats.
But at the end of the day, taking into account Imran's leadership, personality, never-say-die attitude, and his incredible cricketing brain, he puts it over Kapil. So if its talent Kapil was better, in terms of greatness, Imran is ahead.

Without any doubt Imran Khan. A great captain a genuine fast bowler, a true fighter and dependable. He was not as good at batting as he was in bowling but he always rose to the occasion and produced some great innings for his country. Remember the world cup 1992? How he taught his boys to fight like a cornered tiger and Pakistan came from no where to win the cup. He batted at one down position and in the final against England it was him who along with Javed Miandad steadied the innings for Pakistan otherwise 2-24 and Derrick Pringle on full cry, it could have been worst but great Imran Khan won it eventually for Pakistan.
