Hi,
The square root of any number has positive and negative roots.
As you know 2 x 2 = 4 and -2 x -2 = 4, so therefore, the square root of this number is 2 and -2. This is so because these numbers when multiplied by each other (2x2 or -2x-2) both give 4.
I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Sincerely,
Andrew

Yes I do. It's + or - 2
That's because -2 x -2 =+ 4 and +2 x +2 = +4 as well
Any number times itself yields a perfect square

The square root of four is 2. You can check this by making an array that is two dots by two dots. You know that four is a square because the array makes a literal square. Also, 2 times 2 gets you to four.

check: 2^2 = 2*2 = 4
It could be -2 as well, as -2^2=-2*-2=4..
Note: taking something to the power (^) is the 'opposite' of a square root.. (similar to addition is the 'opposite' of subtraction).

it is 2
the calculator even says its 2
since sqaure means the number times the amount of the little number called the exponent so if it is sqaured then the number times the number x times x if the number is 3 then x times x times x
so you have right now a sqaure root of 4 which means what times what is 4 in which is the same number times the same number is 4 so 2 times 2 is 4 so your answer is...

Is this a math question: sqrt(4)=2 ???
Or is this an epistemology question: how do we know what we know, and what does it mean to "know", especially insofar as math is concerned???
Done.
