Well first of all its year end so you can find deals, yamaha offers 36 month $99 bucks a month minimum payment then you have to pay the rest on the bike after the 3 years. You'd want to take some basic bike courses before you and after you purchase your bike. Don't lease it, buy it in case of any trouble. I would buy whatever you like you will get used to speed and all sizes are going to be fast as it is.

Since this is your first bike I highly recommend buying a decent used bike. The last thing you will want to do is drop your brand new toy. Make sure it is at or under 600cc's as the previous guy says. Do not lease a bike, if you drop a leased bike then you'll be paying for it later. Save your money for when you've gotten a good amount of experience with turns/starts/stops etc...

You also really should take a motorcycle drivers course. They are 100% worth it.

If this is your first street bike then buy a used one - don't spend more than $5K and be ready to mess-up some fiberglass! I also strongly reccomend you start with something in the 600CC range, they are fun, fast, and still controllable!

When you are ready to get your next bike you can sell yours (assuming its in one piece) and get most of the money back to spend on your "dream bike".

If this isn't your first bike, then buy, don't lease, your motorcycle. You should be able to find the model you want with less than 1000 miles on it. There is always someone out there that thinks they want a motorcycle and then finds out that they can't handle riding in traffic. I always like to find those deals!

Used sport bike is like used Mustang GT, most likely used up. With $12000 you can get a new bike with no problem. Either pay outright or make a very good down payment.

Since this is your first I would recommend you read up on different models, check out their rideablility, not just their top speed. They will all go over 100 mph, fast enough to kill you if you let it get away from you. I also recommend you check insurance rates. Many new sport bike owners have had their dreams crushed when they found out they could not get insured on that type of bike or the insurance was so high they could not afford it.

They lease these?

I would buy used. There are many sport bikes that are like new with very low miles. you will save thousands for a 1 year old bike.

Do some research, figure out what you really want, then buy that, with cash if at all possible. Personally, I like the Suzuki VStrom 650 as an all purpose bike, but that's just me .... I don't really care for crotch rockets much, especially on long trips.

If this is your first bike, a lease is a good idea. Also, you need to start with something less than 800cc's Anymore than that and you have too much bike. Trust me. The first time you cob the throttle on something like a CBR 600, it's gonna scare the hell out of you.
There are three kinds of riders...
Those who have laid it down
Those who are going to lay it down
Those who lie about not ever laying it down.

If it's your first bike, it shouldn't be a crotch rocket.
Buy a mid range 'standard` until you learn what you're about.
Can't tell you how many new nuggets drop their first big expensive 'crotch rocket` the first month or so.

If you think you can, you shouldn't."
