You cant buy cigarettes departing from the UK as you are going to an EU country. The duty free at Malta airport has plenty to offer although to be honest it is cheaper to buy on the Island. If you go to a Cash and Carry here you can but cigarettes and alcohol for a lot less than even the airport!

Hi, When you are leaving England to go to Egypt and you are at the duty free you can bring as much as you want into Egypt as it is not in Europe so it is not limited. You can then buy more on the flight, and when you arrive in Egypt you will find a duty free at the airport so should you want more you can do. This is where it gets slightly complicated. If you have landed in Egypt and have not left the airport you can but 4 litres of spirits and 600 cigarettes per adult. Should you leave the airport then you have the option to go to the duty free, this depends which airport you are landing in if it is Cairo it is in a shopping mall called City Stars, in Sharm el Sheikh it is next to the Kharmana hotel in Naama Bay (which is the tourist area) If you are going to Luxor it is behind the Emilio hotel. You only have 48hours to do this from when you have arrived so you must take your passport and either £ $ or € sometimes they accept credit card but not always so it is better to take cash. When you are leaving Egypt at all the airports you also have the option to go to Duty free and again you are better taking $ as everything will be priced in $ although you can use other currenct it will be at their exchange rate. You can only take back into the UK 1 litre of spirits and 200 cigarettes it does not matter what you take from England to the UK but this is your limit back to the UK. I hope that this is of some help to you

Malta is now part of the EEC and thus it is no longer possible to buy duty free alcohol and cigarettes when travelling between the two! It is possible that local Malta taxes on alcohol and cigarettes are cheaper than in the UK so you might be able able to find that local (Malta) purchases are cheaper. I suggest that you try buying in a local supermarket rather than in the Maltese airport 'duty free' shops as these have to pay hefty rents without getting the trade. You wont be able to buy in the UK on your return! Hope this helps! Have a good holiday!

I think that the London Airports all have a system that allows you to buy on the way out, but pick-up when you return.
But, seeing the answers above, research the prices in Malta before you use it.
(And it also depends on which time you return.
If your flight home is in the middle of the night, or at a time you have to hurry to catch the last train, you might not want to stop to pick the stuff up.)

fags cost 1.65 LM from machines all over the island - just watch out cos not all machines accept all the coins - bizarre. I used up my LM buying packs of three bottles of wine for 3LM at the airport - if you are a spirit drinker buy it in Gatwick for consumption in your holiday appartment, bottles of spirit were expensive in Malta - check all the labels cos some are not available to buy when visiting EU countries - the same applied for fags. The local beer cisk is cheap to buy in Malta and house doubles etc are cheap in bars.

Duty-free purchases are only for people departing internationally, so you should buy them at your departure airport.
