Maybe the other person was just having a bad moment.
Jesus said to turn the other cheek, and to forgive 7 X 7= 49 times!!!
We forgive because it is the right thing to do for US.
That being said, there are instances where forgiveness is taken way too far. I recall seeing a woman on Oprah who survived a murder attempt. The man was in prison, she went to see him AND MADE FRIENDS WITH HIM after she forgave him. She said that she would invite him over for dinner with her family!!! I see that as endangering herself and her family!!! I survived an attempt on my life, and I never saw the person again. He never apologized, and I never held a grudge--I was too busy surviving to give any importance to him at all.
But we forgive so as not to hurt ourselves.
May God bless you.

I find your question interesting as you asked "why" instead of "how". at least, that's how i would have asked it.
i think we should return kindness to those that injure us because the people who injure are usually injured themselves. it is a truth that "hurt people hurt people".
love and acceptance is sometimes sought in strange ways.

To reduce entropy. To replace a vice with a virtue. To turn the other cheek and break the cycle of revenge and violence. To turn a liability into an asset. To replace a negative with a positive.

1. To prove to the world that one is better than the scum.
2. Meekness and fear
3. Christian value: "turn the other cheek". This one is completely unacceptable reason.
4. Lack of "balls" or intestinal fortitude to do the right thing and pay back evenly.
5. Fear of reprisal or bad mouthing/scandalous libel against you

Most don't but this is the lesson of unconditional Love. The same and final lesson that Jesus himself came to learn and teach. To love the man that is stomping your face into the ground as he is doing it. Once you have accomplished this then you have learned about as much as this human life can teach you. Not an easy one to learn although.

Its a value in some people, called compassion.

Sometimes, those that had caused harm to you in the past are in such deep ****, you feel compelled to help them, despite all the sour memories you have.

Its good to help others, regardless of what they are and what they did, if they are really despicable, treat this act as an act of superiority, since he needs help and you are administering it, your superior!(thats just my mindset.)

Do we? Most of the time, I just find the most distant piece of territory away from them. I am not going to take up lying at my age.

Because kindness is the best weapon against cruelty. Like water, it can wear down any degree of hardness.

I am not sure of a good answer for this, but these are words I have learned to live by....

"Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you"
