Nothing will help in bad weather, your sattelite needs to "see" the sattelite to work. I am afraid that GPS service will be pretty incomplete also.

Hi Gster,
If you have a good clean clear view then there is nothing you can do but if the view of the dish is obstructed by a tree branch or some other object clearing the view the dish sees will help boost your signal so you are not as likely to lose it during a rainstorm.
A bigger dish will give a minimal improvement too.

Nope. The only way around this would be to have the transmitting station put out more power. Your signal gets degraded by the rain, and that is the only want to get through it. Unfortunatly, your dish is recieve only, and it can't tell the transmitting dish that you don't have a strong enough signal getting to your dish.
Now, you could try an amplifier, but all you would be doing is amplifying the noise as well.

No, because the bad weather that is interfering with your viewing is between the dish and the satellite. When the weather clears up, you'll get your reception back.

bad weather or what is known as rain fade is normal. what reduces the rain fad is the lenghth of the cable the longer the cable the more signal is lost. they do have what is known as inline boosters but these are not recomended since most are not rated at the 3 gigs that is needed for the sat signal to pass through.

I had to cut a tree down in 2001 as it was messing up the reception.
