I have a 2006 dodge ram 3500 and when i run it, the battery will explode (i have had to change the battery 3 times in last 4 days). Some said something about overcharging and the charge shutoff. It is no longer under factory warranty (has 54k miles). When i took in to get looked at they hooked up the battery and told me it was fine. Any ideas. The mechanic told me maybe the pcm?? But to bring it back when it was acting up again.

You may have a problem with the voltage regulator. With the hood open and the engine running, place a voltmeter across the battery terminals. You should seen something like 13.7VDC. If you are above this figure and are showing anything over 14V, then replace the regulator. I don't know who checked out the battery, but they should have checked out the voltage with the alternator with the info you gave them. good luck.

The only things that can blow your battery is A a short circuit in the cell which is unlikely as you have had three batteries B the alternator goes short circuit and wollops in the juice,so i would think you have an intermittant fault in the alternator Be lucky

About half of life's problems require a volt-ohm meter to solve. You need one for this. If the truck is overcharging, you would be able to investigate that using your volt meter. If your battery has a cell shorted out you could also detect that using your meter.

Harbor Freight has got a digital they sell for about $3. I hate to admit it, but it's actually pretty good.
