Why not just use the Win XP driver. Then use Power DVD for movie viewing and Nero or Roxio. Works flawlessly on my DVD writers and DVD-combo in my laptops and desktops.

Hi

If it was fitted when the laptop was new , reload the laptop driver disc and hopefully it may work.Check in the bios that it is not turned off or the machine is just set not to look for drives.[ it may be connected via a internal usb so if the usb is not enabled no drive showing. And if you use any newish burner software that should find and be able to burn discs.

bye

Ok, There are couple of ways you can do that.

First what's your brand of the laptop? Advent? If so, go to their website and search for your laptop's model #, and go to their driver page and download the driver/firmware.

Another way you can do that is go to driverguide.com(Google it), and then register and you will have access to hundred thousands of drivers.

To my knowledge, CD/DVD ROMS/Burner does not require any driver. but if you do need it, follow the above instructions.

The drivers should have come with the laptop, if you have win xp then it shouldn't need drivers unless it's a commercial drive.
