Have you ever noticed that you rarely if ever see female athletic trainers in MLB dugouts or a team's staff? Why is that? Someone told me that the San Diego Padres have female athletic trainers on staff and in the dugouts but we're unaware if other MLB teams do this.

This issue was a bit controversial a few years ago where I think it was the Cincy Reds had a female trainer in the dugout and some fans and players complained.

Sounds to me like women rights have taken a few steps backwards if this is true or a trend. Any evidence to back this up out there?

No matter how hard you try to be fair to all, men and women are different. Each gender has strengths and weaknesses, and each seems to favor certain interests more than the other. This may be a little general, but overall very true and in my mind very nice. As the French say "Long Live the Difference". Nevertheless, accommodations are often made for those who have a interest in things more often favored by the other sex. It is a little awkward to think of women in the mens' locker room, and I don't know how welcome I'd be in a women's locker room. And speaking of physical differences, you may have noticed the upper body strength and flexibility differences that make men better at some sports and women better at others. Even still, many baseball fans are women and they deserve some consideration for that. This could be interesting in the future as we all try to sort this out.

It has nothing to do with Women's rights...it has to do with MEN'S rights. The MLB decided that it wasn't going to change the whole dynamic of the locker room to accommodate a woman...good for them. And if you check the team support rosters of most of the MLB teams especially the Cubbies, you will see that their overall staff includes female conditioning staff, female support trainers and other support staff positions.

never noticed.would you want men in the womens locker room? I think it's a privacy issue not so much as discrimination issue and the players may feel more comfortable with men athletic trainers. around the locker room area than women trainers.
