I am paranoid about being raped it's not like so bad to where it hinders my ability to live but I have been described as being overly cautious like when I am at home I lock every single lock on my door...when I am walking I allways carry a knife or mace with me...I wont even let the matnience man in my house if my boyfriend isn't there or if the female manager isn't with him. and I don't walk in between vans or parked cars it's just scares the hell outta me..it's allways been a fear of mine not just one that you get after you watch it on tv...how can I get over the fear ?

Danielle J,
It is better to be : TOO cautious....Believe me...!
I know what I am talking about... But, the only sensible thing I can say is : don't let this fear ruin your life... If it is on your mind all the time, then YOU have NO life at all, in the end...
>>>
Be careful who you trust, and be careful in the dark.. And places you go... Otherwise, there is a "deeper meaning", perhaps in your childhood..talk to someone, about your fears..before this runs out of hand!! .. Best advice, I can give you!!
>>>
How can one expect someone to know their reaction, to what happened to them.. after they were raped, when it never actually happened?.. It's hard enough to know what you want to do when it has.... Been there... :s
>>>>>
Probably in my opinion, it is : "pistanthrophobia", fear of faith in people, as distinct from : "pistandrophobia", fear of faith in men...
Point is, it's very possible to get over fears... As long as you really want it, and believe you can overcome it, by will power.... and therapy, with the RIGHT person!!
>>>>
I wish you all the best, and the strenght to overcome this....It is going to take time, a lot of time...... But, you can do it!!
>>>>
Thanks, for the question!

My regards!

Take care of yourself, Danielle!

you cant rape the willing. hehehe.
but for real, yes ur phobia is a little serious. you are letting it affect ur life when u refuse to walk between vans and parked cars. you have ur mace with you don't be afraid to use it if it is necessary. y dont you get some classes on self defense, karate. Stuff like that would come in handy and you didn't have to carry a weapon.
it may not seem to serious right now but things, when left unchecked, often goes worst. good luck and tackle it now when you are still strong and have ur wits together. dont let it consume you.

Everybody worries or gets the odd case of butterflies in the stomach. But are you missing out on opportunity and happiness because of fears and worries? Is anxiety interfering with your life? While moderate anxiety can be limiting, severe anxiety can be crippling. Anxiety currently afflicts more than 20 million Americans, making it the most common mental illness in the US.

Never hurts to be precautious, but I wouldnt carry a weapon with me, because a strong rapist could take it away from you and hurt you, along with raping you. Stop watching rape on TV and you will grow over it.

It's okay to be cautious, but you need to gain a little confidence and you'll be less likely to be approached. Maybe take some self-defense courses to build your confidence.

Sounds like pretty sane practices to me, especially in today's world. As long as your "fear" isn't impeding in your ability to live and enjoy your life, the precautions you are taking all sound reasonable to me.
